Dr. Wolfgang Kuebler is a leading expert in lung physiology and pulmonary cell biology with a strong integrative research focus to translate basic science on fundamental mechanisms of disease into preclinical and clinical trials on better diagnostic and therapeutic options in critical care medicine and cardiopulmonary disease. Dr. Kuebler´s work centers at large on disease mechanisms and novel therapeutic targets in acute lung injury, lung edema, and pulmonary hypertension. He holds several patents incl. one on the use of the heptapeptide angiotensin-(1-7) as a novel treatment strategy in acute lung injury, and one for a novel TRPC6 inhibitor as a therapy in acute and chronic lung disease. His recent work focuses on the role of microparticles and other extracellular vesicles as novel biomarkers, pathomechanisms of disease propagation, and putative therapeutic vehicles in cardiopulmonary disease. A unique methodological expertise of Dr. Kuebler is the use of intravital microscopy and real-time fluorescence imaging techniques in intact organs or life animal models, which allow for direct visualization of intracellular signaling pathways and cell or microvesicle trafficking in intact organs.
