Research Interests:

Acute and chronic lung disease represent a major health care problem.  The fundamental science of stem cell science as applies to lung disease is only beginning to unravel the challenges to meet that need.  Our research interests include development of practical approaches for cell replacement therapy and cell therapy for lung disease.  We are also exploring novel approaches to generate functional progenitor populations for lung epithelial cells.  We also have pursed decellularization of organs to create scaffolds for recellularization as an exciting new approach for lung and airway replacement. Finally, we have an ongoing parallel interest in studies of stem cell populations in lung cancer.
