Research Interests:

I am Anesthesiologist-in-Chief at St Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, Co-Director of the Centre for Critical Care Research at the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Sciences, Clinician Scientist at the Keenan Research Centre, and Professor of Anesthesia and Physiology at the University of Toronto. I also hold appointments as a clinician investigator at the Health Research board Clinical research Facility and as principal investigator at the Regenerative Medicine Institute, at the National University of Ireland, Galway. My major research interests include investigation of the therapeutic potential of cell and gene based therapies for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. In addition, my research group has spearheaded the investigation of the therapeutic potential and risk:benefit profile of hypercapnia in critically ill patients with acute severe respiratory failure. Other research interests include acute [postoperative] pain, and the evaluation of medical devices in perioperative patients.
